All about Skin Peel Treatment

Chemical peels, also known as derma peeling, chemexfoliation, face skin peel treatment or even skin tone treatment, use a chemical on the face that makes the skin peel off allowing new skin to replace it. The regenerated, new skin is softer, smoother and less wrinkled. The new skin is also more sensitive to the harsh sun rays.  It is a cosmetic treatment that is easily available at private clinics. But since, no cosmetic procedure is without risks, it should be discussed before going ahead with the treatment.

Face skin peel treatment are performed on the face, hands or neck. They can be used to reduce fine lines around the mouth or under the eye. Even skin tone treatment treats wrinkles caused by ageing, sun damage and other hereditary factors. They also treat certain forms of acne and improve the appearance of mild scarring. They reduce age spots, dark patches, freckles caused due to pregnancy or taking contraceptive pills. This treatment improves the look and the feel of the skin from dull color and texture. Because of sun damage the skin can contain pre-cancerous Kerasotes that appear as spots, and improve after the even skin tone treatment. After the treatment these spots are less likely to occur. However more severe wrinkles, sags and bulges do not respond well to chemical peels. They require other kind of procedures like laser resurfacing, face lift, brow lift, eyelid lift etc. A reputed cosmetic surgeon will be able to help you determine the best cosmetic procedure for your problem. Generally, light haired patients or fair skinned patients are ideal candidates for face skin peel treatment. Darken skin types may also get good results, depending on the type of problem being treated.

Before the even skin tone treatment the skin is thoroughly cleaned with an agent that removes excess oil and the hair and eyes are protected. Then chemical solutions like lactic acid, salicylic acid, carbolic acid, glycolic acid are applied to small areas on the skin. These solutions produce controlled wounds that enable new and regenerated skin to appear. Before the face skin peel treatment your doctor may ask you to stop taking certain medications and also prepare your skin with topical preconditioning medications like glycolic acid or tretinoin.  After the peel it is advised to use broad spectrum sunscreen. The doctor might prescribe oral antiviral medicine or oral antibiotics after the treatment that the patient should take as directed. The oral antibiotics are prescribed on the basis of the depth of the chemical peel. During the treatment most patients experience a warm sensation that lasts for all most five to ten minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. The doctor may apply cool compresses to elevate this feeling. Depending upon the type of face skin peel treatment or even skin tone treatment, a reaction like a sun burn will occur after the procedure. Peeling usually involves redness that is followed by scaling that ends within four to seven days. You can discuss the options with your doctor to determine the depth of your peel.
